The shocking case of Cody Allen Wade, who accidentally recorded himself murdering his mother's boyfriend, has come to a close with an 85-year prison sentence. After being found guilty of murder and other charges by a jury, Wade was sentenced this week by a judge to spend more than eight decades behind bars.
The Clay County Prosecutor's Office revealed that Wade had left a voicemail on his mother's phone just moments before the murder of Carl Haviland. However, Wade's mistake was failing to hang up the phone, resulting in the recording of the murder as a voicemail. The gruesome crime involved Wade stabbing the victim four times in June of 2020.
Prosecutors played the recording of the murder to the jury during the trial. Additionally, court records showed that Wade had recently been released from prison following an arson conviction in Vigo County.
