According to reports, former NBA player and collegiate standout Brandon Hunter has died at the age of 42. The cause of death has yet to be disclosed.
Hunter was a star college player at Ohio University before being drafted in the second round of the legendary 2003 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics (the same draft that saw LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Bosh enter the league). Hunter put up 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 36 games before being selected by the Charlotte Bobcats next summer in the expansion draft. Hunter was later traded to the Orlando Magic where he averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 31 games during the 2004-05 season.
“We are terribly saddened to learn of the loss of our former teammate, Brandon Hunter. We send our deepest condolences to the entire Hunter family,” the Magic said in a statement.
“We are saddened to hear about the loss of Ohio basketball legend Brandon Hunter. Our thoughts are with Brandon’s family at this time,” Ohio University basketball tweeted.
Following his playing career, Hunter began working in the fields of real estate and sports management.
