According to CBS News, Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of notorious kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, was released from prison on Wednesday (September 13).
Coronel Aispuro was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021 after pleading guilty to helping her husband run the infamous Sinaloa drug cartel. Emma is reportedly facing years of supervised release, but the Bureau of Prisons stated, "For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not elaborate on specific release plans."
El Chapo is serving a life sentence after being convicted on murder conspiracy and drug charges in 2019. As a result, he forfeited $12.6 billion in profits he made from drug trafficking. He is serving at the supermax federal prison United States Penitentiary Florence in Colorado.
