Although the United States has the most powerful military force in the world, the country has lost a number of armed conflicts since the 1940s, including the recent "War in Afghanistan." The most infamous and horrific loss remains the "Vietnam War," a twenty-year battle between the Viet Cong in North Vietnam (supported by China and Russia) and South Vietnam (supported by the U.S.A.). American soldiers had a clear advantage in the air and with artillery, whipping out nearly 20% of the jungles in Vietnam with "Agent Orange" and somewhere between 1-3 million enemy soldiers. However, the Viet Cong used a type of "Guerrilla warfare" unbeknownst to the U.S., including unique hit-and-run strategies, dressing soldiers up as civilians, and "Củ Chi tunnels." They also employed unconventional methods of brutality to torture U.S. soldiers physically and psychologically. However, of all the stories that have withstood the test of time since the Viet Cong was declared victorious in 1975 are the accounts of the deadly booby traps deployed throughout the jungle for the U.S. soldiers to encounter. In addition to what must have seemed like an endless amount of mines all over the fields, the Viet Cong set up killing devices, including punji sticks, snake pits, tiger traps, grenades, and cartridge traps in random places throughout the warzone. By the time the U.S. pulled out of the war, nearly 64,000 soldiers were injured or killed in the line of battle.

A video re-creating the Viet Cong's booby traps from the Vietnam War was recently shared on Instagram. It depicts some of the obstacles that the brave U.S. soldiers were up against.
