The injury to Aaron Rodgers quite possibly constitutes the biggest tease in sports history as football fans were anticipating a huge year from the New York Jets with Rodgers at the helm. But after only four plays during the opening series of the Jets' season opener, Rodgers ruptured his Achilles tendon and effectively ruptured the Jets chances of making a legitimate Super Bowl run.
While many are speculating that Monday was the last time fans would ever see Rodgers suit up for an NFL game again, the multiple-time MVP made his first remarks since the unfortunate news came down and apparently seems to be focused on making a return.
"I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love," Rodgers wrote in an IG post. "Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today. 🙏 ♾️ ❤️The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again."
On Wednesday, NFL Players Association executive director Lloyd Howell issued a statement imploring every NFL team to reinstall natural grass and do away with the artificial turf in wake of Rodger's injury.
"Moving all stadium fields to high quality natural grass surfaces is the easiest decision the NFL can make," Howell said. "The players overwhelmingly prefer it and the data is clear that grass is simply safer than artificial turf."
