Last year, the Colorado State Rams finished second to last in the Moutain West Division with a 3-9 record. It was the team's first season under their new head coach, Jay Norvell, who held the same position at the University of Nevada, where he led the Wolf Pack to three consecutive winning seasons before his exit. Although the Colorado State Rams were blown out in their home opener against Washington State (24-50), Jay Norvell proceeded to put a target on his team's back when he shared some less-than-flattering commentary about the opposing head coach of their opponents this Saturday, the Colorado Buffaloes. On a recent episode of The Coach's Show, co-hosted by Jay Norvell and Brian Roth, the former linebacker for the Chicago Bears made it clear that he is not a fan of Coach Prime's flashinesses while on the job.

"I don't care if they hear this in Boulder. I told them [ESPN] -- I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off," Norvell said. "I said, 'When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off. That's what my mother taught me.'"

Whether intentional or unintentional, Deion Sanders is no stranger to ruffling feathers. As an MLB player with the New York Yankees in 1990, he was famously confronted by Carlton Fisk of the Chicago White Sox for trying to etch a money sign in the dirt near home plate before an at-bat. Four years later, as an NFL player with the 49ers, "Prime Time" high-stepped down the sidelines during a "Pick-Six" in an effort to taunt the Atlanta Falcons, a team he spent his first five seasons with. Hence, when Coach Prime caught wind of Jay Norvell's criticism, he immediately relayed the message to his players during practice, using the viral clip as bulletin board material.

“It was just gonna be a good game, but they done messed around and made it..." Coach Prime said as if he were waiting for his players to jump in.

"Personal!" His players replied.

Heading into the rivalry game this Saturday, Coach Prime's Buffaloes are the 23.5-point favorites. The last time these two college football teams faced off was in 2019. The Colorado Buffaloes won the home game 52-31.
