According to reports, the family of Kendrick Johnson--a teen who was found dead in a rolled-up gym mat at his South Georgia high school in 2013 is now suing various law enforcement agencies in a federal lawsuit amounting to $1 billion.

Johnson was 17 at the time of his death in 2013, and the family has always made it clear they believe foul play was involved despite countering findings by the GBI Medical Examiner’s office.

Kendrick’s mother spoke on the lawsuit, saying “It's painful. It's hurtful. It's a shame that we have been having to fight for 10 and a half long years.” Kendrick’s father Kenneth Johnson spoke on the situation during a press conference held on Tuesday, saying: “We should not have to be the grievers and investigators.” News of this comes after the case was re-opened in 2021, and ruled an accidental death a year later.
