The Chicago Bears had high hopes heading into the 2023 NFL season. The off-season additions of linebackers T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds were meant to bolster a defense that finished 6th last season in points allowed under the guidance of first-year defensive coordinator Alan Williams. Nevertheless, the Bears are off to a 0-2 start after suffering back-to-back double-digit losses. On Tuesday, the "Monsters of the Midway" sustained another devastating loss without even taking the field because the team's defensive coordinator, Alan Williams, resigned abruptly after the FBI raided his home.
“I am taking a step back to take care of my health and family. I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a storied NFL franchise with a rich history," William said in a recently released statement. "The McCasky family is first-class and second to none. I would also like to thank Coach Matt Eberflus and General Manager Ryan Poles for giving me the opportunity to come to Chicago. I would also like to thank President Kevin Warren, the coaches and player of which I value the relationships and camaraderie. I value the NFL shield and all that it stands for and after taking some time to address my health, I plan to come back and coach again.”
Legendary Bears defensive back-turned-FBI agent Charles Tillman allegedly alerted the team about the raid beforehand. However, since the news broke, the Bears have denied that the FBI raid took place. This has caused conflicting reports amongst media outlets. However, on Thursday, during the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the host confirmed that the FBI raid did indeed occur.
