On September 13th, law enforcement in Evansville, Indiana, responded to a distress call at the residence of David and Angel Schonabaum--a married couple with a six-month-old infant in their care. Upon arrival, the cops discovered a home full of rat feces, filth, and clutter. Unfortunately, the most shocking discovery was yet to come. The couple's baby boy was covered in his blood, with over 50 rat bites all over his nose, cheeks, forehead, thighs, feet, and toes. The bites were so severe that parts of his fingers were missing, exposing his bones. The father alleged that he found his son in the basement after his baby was nearly eaten alive by rats. Consequently, the cops arrested the married couple, along with the baby's older sister, Angel Schonabaum (who also had two babies of her own living in the house), on child negligence charges.
The baby had a temperature of 93.5 degrees when the cops arrived. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he needed a blood transfusion.
