Ice Spice released "Munch" just over one year ago in August. Her sudden rise to fame made a viral sensation out of her mother, Charina Almanzar, while also reminding people that he father, Joseph Gatson, was once an underground rapper. Now, another member of the Gatson family is making a name for himself in the Tri-State area. Ice Spice's 16-year-old, Joey Gatson, is one of the best high school quarterbacks in New York. The signal-caller for the Iona Prep Gaels currently ranks in the top 20 in the state for total yardage and passing yards. Heading into their week five matchup with Monsignor Farrell High School (3-1), the Iona Prep Gaels are 2-2 after losing a road game to St. Anthony's last week. The Iona Prep Gaels are undefeated at home this season, which could bode well for them on Friday night. In order to get back to their winning ways, the varsity squad will rely heavily on their dual-threat quarterback, who clocked in at 4.5 in the 40-yard dash.
“I’m confident that four years at this level of competition will prepare me for the collegiate stage. I’m fearless, I’m competitive, I lead by example, and I will never let anyone outwork me,” said Gatson in an interview with NCSA Sports.
With a throw release time of 0.45, it may not be long before college football fans are watching Joey Gatson light up opposing defenses from the pocket on Saturdays.
