Tyrese and his company Voltron Films are reportedly suing Joan Pendergrass—the widow of singer Teddy Pendergrass over the rights to creating a biopic of Joan’s late husband.
It was noted that Tyrese is suing because Teddy Pendergrass’ widow refused to extend the option on the rights of the singer’s story in 2022. Along with that, Tyrese alleges he put more than $450,000 into the project since he first acquired the rights in 2011.
Joan Pendergrass has gone on to explain that she only gave the rights to Tyrese in exchange for the promotion of Teddy Pendergrass’ legacy and music. In a now-deleted post from Tyrese via Instagram, the singer briefly addressed the issue: "Don't call or text me... Call Joan Pendergrass she's the ONLY one standing in the way of Teddy's story being told!"
As of now, Tyrese is asking for $1 million in damages. Stay tuned for more updates.
