Lavar emphasized that it was just one mistake with sunglasses that got him into trouble, not a series of events. He expressed his dissatisfaction with how UCLA handled the situation, revoking his son's gym and meal privileges. While Lavar acknowledged the serious situation his son found himself in due to China's strict laws, he asserted that his family had contacts in China who were able to help. He criticized former US President Donald Trump for claiming credit for LiAngelo's release, noting that his son had already been out of jail at the time. Lavar insisted that the incident didn't warrant the widespread criticism it attracted, and he used it for the advancement of his Big Baller Brand.
