Newly revealed evidence, including never-before-seen photos of the crime scene where Tupac Shakur was shot and videos from the night of the shooting, were presented to a Las Vegas grand jury and obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators. Last week, 60-year-old Duane “Keefe D” Davis was indicted by a Clark County grand jury for Shakur’s murder. Las Vegas Metro police arrested Davis near his Henderson home. The grand jury, meeting multiple times over three months, indicted Davis on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.
The shooting occurred on September 7, 1996, at Flamingo Road and Koval Lane, just off the Las Vegas Strip, following a fight earlier that night involving Shakur’s group and a rival gang member, Orlando Anderson, who was Davis’ nephew. The recently obtained files include new video footage of Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight leaving the MGM Grand after the fight, different from previously released surveillance footage. Additionally, photos depict the bullet-riddled car Tupac was traveling in, along with autopsy images.
Witnesses stated that Davis, a known gang member and drug trafficker, was in the front passenger seat of the car that pulled up next to Tupac’s vehicle before the shooting. Knight, the head of Death Row Records at the time, was driving the BMW with Shakur as the passenger. During the recent presentation, the grand jury was also shown at least four videos of Davis giving interviews about the shooting. Both Orlando Anderson and another man, Deandre Smith, who was in the backseat with Anderson during the incident, have since passed away.
Prosecutors also clarified that there is no statute of limitations for murder charges in Nevada, and the charge can extend to those who aid or abet in a murder, not just the person accused of firing the weapon.
