In August, the Chicago Police Department reported that over 1,448 shootings had occurred in their city. Statistically, deaths by gunfire are slightly down from a year ago and the CPD is solving more murder cases. However, mass shootings in the "Windy City" have remained prevalent even without former Mayor Lori Lightfoot in office.
The CPD recently opened an investigation into a mass shooting that happened on Sunday around 2:30 a.m. at a club/restaurant called Blum located at 300 block of West Erie Street, North Chicago. The on-camera incident resulted in eight people being shot. One of the perpetrators discharged gunfire using an illegal Glock switch as he fired into the crowd. Of the eight people shot, four were hospitalized in critical condition, while the others were stabilized. As of now, the CPD has made no arrests in the case.
