Inmates at jails and prisons nationwide are notorious for their resourcefulness behind bars. Some inmates run empires during their incarceration, while others have used their craftiness to make alcoholic beverages and complex communication networks. Inmates are also known for their makeshift weaponry, whether it's a shank or a substance made from their bodily fluids. But in some cases, inmates obtain ready-made weapons, making them far more dangerous and unpredictable than their rivals in jumpsuits and police uniforms.
Last Fall, a federal prisoner in Arizona somehow managed to obtain a firearm before pulling it out on a rival in the visitation area. Three years prior to that incident, an inmate at the Cook County Jail in Chicago famously procured a loaded glock. This week, an unidentified inmate from the South Carolina Department of Corrections made headlines on social media for getting his hands on a chainsaw.
Although the incident had the potential to get him and the prison staff in a world of trouble, the inmate happily took a photo of himself with his dangerous new weapon in hand.
