High school basketball standout Mikey Williams is set to face trial for six felony gun charges, according to a ruling by Superior Court Judge Sherry M. Thompson-Taylor on Tuesday. Williams, a five-star recruit for the Memphis Tigers, is accused of five counts of assault with a weapon and one charge of firing into an occupied vehicle. The alleged incident occurred in March in San Diego, where shots were fired at a car following an argument.

While no one was injured, Williams could face up to 28 years in prison if convicted. Despite witnesses not directly seeing Williams fire the gun, the judge found probable cause based on testimony that he was armed and threatening. Williams, who has been attending online classes and remains part of the Memphis basketball team but has no access to facilities, will return to court for arraignment on October 24. His status on the team will be determined after the case concludes.
