--------
Johnny Gill reminisced about his days with music group New Edition, his move to Motown Records, his solo career success, and his approach to making music. Gill explained that after the smashing success of their "Heartbreak" album, he felt obligated to continue making music as a solo artist, a deal negotiated when moving to Motown. Despite the success of the group and other members’ solo endeavors, like Bobby Brown and Ralph Tresvant, Gill’s album went four times platinum, double the sales of New Edition by himself. To this day, his single “My My My” remains his signature track. However, he highlighted the importance of constant evolution and improvement, stating, “My thought process is: what’s next?” Gill revealed that once he can listen to his music without critiquing it, he knows the product is finished and ready to face whatever outcome it may see.
