--------
Garrett Morris discussed his career trajectory, which began off-Broadway and eventually led to him becoming a member of the original cast of Saturday Night Live (SNL), which was known as "not ready for prime time players." Morris explained that before his big break, he had been involved in many off-Broadway shows and written several plays, one of which depicted the struggles of a Black man who infiltrated Black groups. This play caught the attention of 'SNL' creator Lorne Michaels, who hired Morris initially as a writer. The decision to cast Morris as a regular performer came after the SNL team saw his performance in the movie "Cooley High." Despite some initial obstacles, Morris was auditioned and subsequently became a key part of the SNL ensemble alongside other comedy legends like John Belushi.
