Councilwoman Inna Vernikov of New York City found herself in hot water recently after being arrested for carrying a firearm during a pro-Palestinian rally at Brooklyn College. The arrest came after pictures were posted online, clearly showing the councilwoman with a gun.
Vernikov, who represents the 48th District and has been known for her pro-Israel stance, now faces charges of criminal possession of a firearm. The incident has sparked outrage and controversy, with many questioning how a councilwoman could be involved in such a situation.
The pictures that circulated on social media depict Vernikov with part of the gun visible, sticking out of her pants. However, it is worth noting that during interviews with the media at the rally, no visible weapon was observed. Nonetheless, the pictures proved to be evidence enough for her arrest.
Following the release of the images, the councilwoman turned herself in to the police. It remains to be seen what the potential consequences or legal ramifications of this arrest might be for Vernikov.
