Diddy and Will Smith found themselves on opposite sides of the room. Gene was familiar with Diddy's gestures and body language, so when he noticed Diddy do a particular arm movement and glance in Jennifer's direction, Gene went to Diddy's side. Concerned, Diddy told Gene, "Yo, I think Will and Jada are trying to scoop up Jennifer. I want you to stay close."
Diddy, known for his confidence and ability to handle himself in a fight, joked that he could take on Will Smith in a brawl, but Gene didn't think he would win against the Fresh Prince star.
