Mitt Romney says that Oprah Winfrey proposed running on the same ticket as him in the 2020 presidential election as a means to block Donald Trump from gaining re-election.
The news surfaced via a transcript from a book about Romney called ‘Romney: A Reckoning,’ which reportedly includes hours of interviews with Mitt Romney. The book also includes excerpts from the Utah Senator’s journals and diaries.
A snippet of the book that surfaced via Axios details Winfrey’s play to “save the country.” Following a story published about Winfrey’s alleged play, a spokesperson for the media mogul said, “In November 2019, Ms. Winfrey called Senator Romney to encourage him to run on an Independent ticket. She was not calling to be part of the ticket and was never considering running herself.”
