Johnny Gill has spoken out about the unfair contracts his band, New Edition, has struggled with for the past 40 years. Gill emphasized that their contracts have been detrimental, placing them among the worst contractual conditions for artists. Despite numerous attempts to renegotiate, the band continues to fight. In 2004, they failed to regain the masters of their music. Gill highlights the challenges they face with the evolution of the music industry, particularly with the advent of streaming services. Despite financial sustainability from other ventures, they're determined to rectify the issue. Gill calls for respect and recognition for the band's legacy and demands fair treatment to remedy decades-old wrongs.
