Part 2: Tim Donaghy on Rasheed Wallace Threatening Him After Getting Technical Foul
--------
Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy discussed his journey in the industry leading up to his 2007 arrest for betting on his own games. Donaghy, who was inspired by his referee father and even followed him to games, only became a referee himself after several unsatisfying jobs after college. Through participation in an NBA training program, Donaghy climbed the ranks from high school leagues all the way to the NBA, where he officiated 772 regular games and 20 playoff games. Despite the thrill of success, he admitted the experience initially proved difficult as the 'new guy,' as he faced aggressive behavior from players and coaches. He also highlighted the ranking system among referees, which influences their advancement opportunities and the likelihood of being let go if they don't progress as expected. Overall, Donaghy reflected on his time in the NBA, citing the joy and excitement of his promotion and first playoff game as memorable highlights.
