Tory Lanez's attempt to secure his release on bond while appealing his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion was denied by the California Court of Appeal. Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, had previously sought release from his trial court judge after his December conviction but was denied, leading to this subsequent request. In the motion filed on October 5, Lanez and his lawyers argued he posed no danger to others and merely wished to support his family during the appeal process.
However, Justice Lee Smalley Edmon, presiding judge of the 2nd District, noted Lanez's Canadian citizenship, past concerns about him being a flight risk, and his violent felony conviction. She ruled that Lanez failed to provide clear and convincing evidence to justify his release. Lanez, 31, is currently serving a 10-year sentence at North Kern State Prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Despite Lanez's attempts to blame Megan's friend, Kelsey Harris, for the shooting, the jury found him guilty based on Megan's testimony about the incident.
