Part 1: Tim Donaghy on Becoming an NBA Referee, Making $300K a Year
--------
Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy revealed how he and his colleagues tried to 'stick it' to player Allen Iverson after Iverson threatened another referee. After a conflict with referee Steve Javie, Iverson was fined but not suspended, irritating the referees who were officiating his next game. They decided to keep calling 'palming' violations on Iverson, a rule often overlooked, particularly when made by exciting crossover players like Iverson. Additionally, they let go of minor fouls committed by players against Iverson. Donaghy recollected Iverson asking him during the game how long the harassment would carry on, to which he sarcastically denied knowing. Donaghy also confessed that the referees’ interactions with the players were a major factor he considered while betting on games. Some referees even bet on who would give obstinate players like Rasheed Wallace a technical foul the quickest.
