Tems recently sat down for an interview with Angie Martinez, and the "Wait for U" singer opened up about her prison stay in Uganda in 2020.

She was taken to prison alongside another Nigerian artist, Omah Lay, after they were accused of violating COVID-19 regulations in the country. Tems explained, "That was so scary.  I spent two nights in prison. I thought I wasn’t gonna come out."

She then detailed what it was like inside, stating, "You’re just on the floor, no bed. I didn’t even know I was going to get out, I didn’t have any ears on the ground nobody told me anything. Outside people were like ‘free Tems, free Omah Lay’ but inside I was just hopeful, waiting. There’s no calls, you can’t make a phone call."

After Tems' team met with the president of Uganda, she was released, and she added that the experience changed her forever.
