In this clip, Vlad and 1090 Jake discussed Vlad's interview with John "Boxer" Mendoza, a high-ranking former member of the Nuestra Familia gang, who explained the circumstances that led to his leaving the gang and subsequent cooperation with law enforcement. Mendoza was facing a life sentence plus 150 years, and while waiting for his trial in county jail, he learned his girlfriend was dying of lupus. In a jail phone call, Mendoza promised to consider cooperating with the authorities to comfort her, a sentiment recorded and shared by the prosecution, as a potential entrapment to force Mendoza to cooperate due to possible retaliation from the gang. The gang subsequently put a hit out on Mendoza. Following the death of both his mother and girlfriend, Mendoza opted to cooperate with the authorities and was subsequently released after serving ten years. However, he now lives a life of perpetual fear due to the gang's longstanding hit on him. 1090 Jake reacted by pointing out how strict Latino gangs are in comparison to other criminal organizations.
