According to reports, an Alabama mayor named F.L. “Bubba” Copeland reportedly ended his life after a right-wing conservative news website involuntarily outed him as being transgender.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the Smiths Stations mayor shot himself in front of police during a welfare check. Previously, Copeland was exposed by 1819 News, which published a headline calling out “The Secret Life” of Bubba Copeland.

Copeland, who once posed with Donald Trump, reportedly confirmed to the blog that the accounts they found of him posing “in various outfits, some more racy than others,” was him and that it was a “hobby” used for “getting rid of stress.” Copeland reportedly asked the blog not to release the information to the public, which they did anyway. The news quickly spread and caused controversy, prompting Copeland to say: “This will not waver my devotion to my family, serving my city, serving my church.”

However, Sheriff Jay Jones noted the incident where Copeland took his life happened days later (Friday), with the mayor stepping out of his car and shooting himself.
