Jeezy noted that his transition into music was a grind that paid off. However, the rapper revealed his money stemmed from hustling, and it wasn’t until he a had conversation with Jay-Z that changed his perspective on getting money from music.

While on the ‘Assets Over Liabilities,’ Jeezy spoke about the money he received in his early career days, speaking on a publishing check he got. At 6:35, Jeezy started saying, “I ain’t cash the check for like a year-and-a-half. [Jon Platt] called me like, ‘What’s going on with the check I gave you?’ ‘I’ma keep it real with you I left it in some pants and I think it got faded and I don’t know where it’s at.'”

Jeezy noted the check was for a couple of million dollars but noted he didn’t have a need for the money at the time. “JAY-Z called me like, ‘Yo, you gotta quit playing.’ I was like, ‘Alright, I gotta. Not at the time, when I came in from the streets to music, I was good. I was straight. The music, to me, I was more infatuated that people liked what I was doing. I didn’t need the money, so I thought. I just had the bread. Then I was getting money for shows, it was like taking ice cream from a baby. It was the sweetest shit ever,” said Jeezy.

The rapper noted that when Def Jam gave him the check, he didn’t have a bank account. As a result, he was putting his checks in a shoebox, saying he was too embarrassed to ask about getting the money. “I was too embarrassed to ask… By the way, I was paranoid of banks. The first thing I’m thinking is it gon’ be money laundering.” Watch above.
