Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders found himself intervening in a fight that was about to break out during a Senate hearing on Tuesday (November 14).

During a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing, GOP Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma challenged the president of the Teamsters union, Sean O'Brien, to a fight. Things got heated between the two men while they rehashed a back-and-forth that began on X in June.

Mullin read aloud O'Brien's original tweet during the hearing Tuesday, which said: "Greedy CEO who pretends like he’s self made. In reality, just a clown & fraud. Always has been, always will be. Quit the tough guy act in these senate hearings. You know where to find me. Anyplace, Anytime cowboy."

Mullin then told O'Brien, "Sir, this is a time; this is a place. You want to run your mouth? We can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here."

When the two men stood and appeared to accept the challenge to fight, Sanders stepped in to intervene, telling Mullin, "Stop it! No, no, sit down! You know, you’re a United States senator."
