Former NBA players Glen "Big Baby" Davis and Will Bynum were convicted by a New York jury on Wednesday for participating in a scheme that defrauded an insurance plan for NBA players and their families of over $5 million. More than 20 individuals, many of them former NBA players, have been convicted in connection with the case. The scheme involved submitting fictitious dental and medical claims to the NBA Players' Health and Benefit Welfare Plan. Terrence Williams, a 2009 first-round draft pick, received a ten-year prison sentence in August for his role as a ringleader.

The convictions highlight that engaging in fraud, regardless of notoriety or success in sports, can lead to criminal charges, according to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. Glen Davis, 37, played for the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and LA Clippers during his eight-year pro career. Will Bynum, 40, had stints with the Nets, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, and Celtics, averaging 7.1 points and 2.4 assists in 153 NBA games.
