Part 3: Former Army Sniper Nicholas Irving on His Biggest Firefight, Lasted Almost an Entire Day
Part 1: Former Army Sniper Nicholas Irving on Why He Doesn't Celebrate Veterans Day Anymore
--------
In this clip, former Army sniper Nicholas Irving talked about the level of recognition military veterans receive in the country as well as the state of the country's politics. Irving discussed his discouragement by the lack of societal support for veterans beyond symbolic gestures. Irving's disillusionment extends to government and politics, suggesting that once the job done by the military is over, it often feels like there is a washing of hands and a disengagement from those who were asked to make sacrifices. When asked about how the country could repay veterans like himself, Irving bluntly suggested “stop putting cowards and weak people in positions of power,” asking for more strong-minded, morally-valued individuals in office. He also expressed skepticism in voting, pointing out that politicians often fail to deliver on their promises. Irving urged society to elect sincere leaders with moral strength for real change.
