Comedy legend Cheech Marin discussed his early success with Tommy Chong. Their albums were nominated for Grammys for Best Comedy Recording, which instantly propelled them into the limelight. As their experimental music gained traction, their first album caused quite a stir in the record industry, being praised as edgy. Further albums such as "Big Bambu" gained fame for their unusual packaging, which included giant rolling papers—a concept designed by Chris Braun that was key to its success. Cheech, however, notes that they were oblivious to their success until he received a check for $800,000. Despite the sudden wealth, Cheech maintained a modest lifestyle, choosing to invest in art and provide for his family. According to Cheech, constantly creating albums and touring eventually led to burnout.
