Comedian Cheech Marin talks about his career with comedy partner Tommy Chong, from their breakout hits in the '80s to the tensions that led to their split. Their first movies were massively successful, both commercially and critically, making them international stars. After Cheech's separation from Tommy Chong in 1984, he shifted to creating comedic video albums. His song, "Born in East L.A.," parodied Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A" and earned him a number-one record and video. The strength of the song led to a movie of the same name, which was a huge hit. Cheech wrote, directed, and starred in the film, a tale of a Mexican-American sent to Mexico in an immigration mix-up based on a true story he read in a newspaper. Despite the movie's success, Cheech did not return to the stoner-comedy genre with Chong.
