Teyana Taylor 'Secretly' Filed for Divorce from Iman Shumpert, Claims He's a 'Narcissist'

Teyana Taylor initiated divorce proceedings against Iman Shumpert almost a year ago, alleging that their seven-year marriage had been marked by Shumpert's jealousy and narcissism, according to recently obtained legal documents. In the documents, Taylor claims that Shumpert's insecurities about not being good enough for her, despite his lucrative NBA career, fueled the breakdown of their marriage. She asserts that Shumpert would grow irritated at public events when photographers requested him to step aside for solo shots of Taylor.

Despite initially opting for a discreet filing using their initials, Taylor contends that Shumpert's subsequent full-name inclusion in the divorce proceedings brought their situation into the public eye. She alleges that Shumpert responded with negative and manipulative text messages, engaging in unnecessary conflicts, even on her birthday, only to apologize later. Taylor accuses Shumpert of emotional and mental abuse, emphasizing her attempts to salvage their family despite his behavior.

Taylor reveals that her efforts included securing opportunities for Shumpert in Hollywood as his NBA career waned. However, she claims that his insecurity persisted, leading to the initiation of divorce proceedings in 2021. Although they briefly reconciled, Taylor asserts that Shumpert's insecurity persisted as his NBA career continued to decline.

In 2022, Taylor claims she experienced manipulation and control, prompting her to file for divorce, retracting it a day later. In January, she finalized the divorce, citing Shumpert's involvement in alleged cheating scandals, DUI arrest, and a 2022 weed possession arrest. Taylor discloses Shumpert's inconsistent behavior during attempts at reconciliation, involvement in subsequent cheating incidents, and his departure from their family home in October.

Teyana Taylor, who announced their separation in September, clarifies that "infidelity" was not among the publicly stated reasons for their split and now seeks primary custody, joint legal custody, and child support for their two children. The couple got married in 2016.
