In a recent interview, former heavyweight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield, opened up about his first match with Riddick Bowe, which ended in his first professional defeat. The fight was a part of a brutal trilogy, with their first fight deemed 'round of the year'. Holyfield disclosed that Bowe was the first opponent who made him realize that he had neglected his mother’s advice to avoid befriending opponents. Holyfield and Bowe were close friends, with Bowe even being his sparring partner during amateur days. Holyfield admitted regretting sharing so much with a person he had to ultimately face in the ring. Despite the loss, Holyfield gracefully accepted the result. The defeat didn't affect Holyfield's fame, as he was a household name by then, doing Coca-Cola commercials and even had his own video game.
