President Biden, while optimistic about the release of the first two dozen hostages, admitted that he does not know when the remaining Americans will be freed. The president expressed his lack of trust in Hamas, stating that he only trusts them to respond to pressure.
During a stroll on the streets of Nantucket Island, where the president is spending the holiday weekend, he and first lady Jill Biden were heckled by protesters. Biden emphasized that this was not a political event. Later, at the island's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, the president faced criticism from progressive party members regarding his handling of the war.
President Biden hopes the four-day truce will allow more aid to reach the Palestinian people. He mentioned that hundreds of trucks are in position to enter Gaza and provide support to the innocent Palestinians who are suffering due to the war unleashed by Hamas.
However, the release of the first hostages was overshadowed by four attacks on US forces in the Middle East on Thanksgiving Day. This brings the total number of attacks to 73 since the middle of last month. Republican lawmakers argue that Iran and its proxy forces have not been deterred and will continue to order their proxies to carry out these attacks as long as they have immunity.
President Biden expressed his desire to extend the four-day pause in violence to secure the release of more hostages. He also mentioned the possibility of a ceasefire for traveling with the President.
