Dez Bryant has strong words for ESPN journalist Malika Andrews, accusing her of bias over her handling of the Josh Giddey scandal.
The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize NBA Today host Malika Andrews for what he perceived as a delayed coverage of the Josh Giddey controversy. Giddey, a point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, faces allegations of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl, potentially jeopardizing a $40 million sponsorship deal. The NBA initiated an investigation into Giddey's reported involvement with the minor after online photos circulated.
In his tweet directed at Andrews, Bryant referenced her past coverage of Brandon Miller on draft day, alleging bias in her reporting. Bryant advised against turning the issue into a racial matter and criticized Andrews' upbringing and character, implying that she is a puppet with a lack of respect from NBA players.
Brandon Miller, a rookie with the Charlotte Hornets, faced a wrongful death lawsuit last month related to the shooting death of Jamea Harris near the University of Alabama campus. Although Miller was not charged with Harris's killing, police alleged his involvement at the request of his former teammate, Darius Miles.
Responding to a user who pointed out that Andrews had covered the Giddey story on NBA Today, Bryant insisted that the coverage came after public demand and criticized the different treatment certain athletes receive in the media. He expressed frustration about athletes being labeled guilty until proven innocent and highlighted the challenges faced by individuals in the sports world, emphasizing the impact of narratives built against them.
