Comedian Carlos Mencia talked about performing at the Comedy Store and L.A. Cabaret, eventually landing a spot on "The Arsenio Hall Show." Mencia discussed the challenges he faced on the show, one of which included having to follow a fellow Latino comedian and cerebral palsy patient, Chris Fonseca. He was later featured on "In Living Color" in 1990, though he admitted to being so nervous he fumbled his line. Mencia's career rose as he hosted shows like 'Loco Slam' on HBO and 'Comedy Compadres.' The demand led him to focus more on Latino-based comedy, helping him create material. He then released his first comedy album in 2000, titled 'Take a Joke, America.' Mencia also had two comedy specials on HBO and won a Cable ACE award for best stand-up comedy special in 2001. He shared how every opportunity shaped his career, particularly being on the road headlining his shows. To hear whether his show, "Mind of Mencia," was a response to "Chappelle's Show," check out the clip above.
