Fat Joe recently spoke to TMZ and noted he doesn’t think rappers should have their lyrics used in criminal cases, citing Young Thug’s current case as an example.
Fat Joe referenced his recent appearance on CNN, where he saw Young Thug’s lyrics flash on the screen, with the example being pointed out as lyrics being referenced in his case. Fat Joe called the lyrics “generic” and then questioned why prosecutors are going after Thugger over those lyrics.
The rapper referred to hip-hop as the art of storytelling and said you “can’t be held accountable for art.” From there, he spoke about freedom of speech and referenced the filmmaking style of Martin Scorsese.
