Taylor Swift was named TIME's Person of the Year, and for her interview, she called out Kim Kardashian for one of the lowest points in her career.
Taylor recalled Kim allegedly leaking a phone call between her and Kanye in 2016 while they discussed Kanye's song "Famous." At the time, Kim shared the conversation online, which appeared to show Taylor approving Kanye's line, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b**** famous."
An extended version of the conversation shows that Kanye asked Taylor about the line, "To all my Southside n****s that know me best/I feel like Taylor Swift might owe me sex," which never made it in the song. During their conversation, Taylor agreed that the line wasn't "mean," and she clarified to Kanye that if he was going to use the line about making her "famous," he should tell the whole story.
Taylor revised the controversy in her latest interview, telling TIME, "You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I've never been before."
She added, "I moved to a foreign country. I didn't leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn't trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard. Make no mistake—my career was taken away from me."
