A youth basketball game in Colorado took a violent turn as referees engaged in a physical altercation in front of children. The incident, captured on video, occurred during a 4th-grade boys' basketball match between Cherry Creek and Legend Blue at the Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood, CO, over the weekend.
In the footage, two referees confronted each other on the court after a disagreement, leading to one referee throwing a powerful right hook that knocked down the other official. Bystanders intervened to prevent further punches, and although the fallen referee eventually got back up, the tension continued as he faced off with another official without exchanging more blows.
TMZ Sports reported that police are investigating the melee, but no arrests have been made as the involved parties had left the scene by the time law enforcement arrived. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during the altercation.
The Gold Crown Foundation, responsible for organizing the game, released a statement expressing their disappointment in the referees' behavior. All referees involved have been suspended indefinitely, according to the foundation. They apologized to everyone who witnessed the incident, especially the children, and affirmed their commitment to restoring order to the league and ensuring a positive season for the kids.
