Pete Rose spoke about his lifelong ban from professional baseball for gambling on games and his optimistic outlook if then-Commissioner Bart Giamatti hadn't tragically passed away seven days after Rose's inclusion on baseball's ineligible list. Rose expressed that while he made mistakes betting on games, he never undermined the integrity of the sport and acted out of competitive spirit, never betting against his team. He pointed to the discrepancy in his life ban compared to the leniency shown in other, arguably more severe transgressions.
