In Newark, New Jersey, a Texas Longhorn created havoc on Thursday morning as it dashed across New Jersey Transit train tracks, leading to delays of up to 45 minutes for commuters heading to New York City. The bull was reported to be running loose at Newark-Penn Station, causing a disruption that lasted for about an hour before authorities captured it and transported it to an animal sanctuary. The bull had escaped from a slaughterhouse in Newark, and officers from the Newark Police Emergency Services Unit and the Port Authority Police Department successfully contained it without any injuries reported.
The bovine, named "Ricardo," was taken to the Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in Wantage, New Jersey. Skylands founder Mike Stura noted that Ricardo, a 1.5-year-old Texas Longhorn steer, weighing between 750 and 800 pounds, would be quarantined and assessed before being integrated with other animals at the sanctuary. The incident caused delays on New Jersey Transit services, and humorously, the transit agency referred to the situation as "Police activity" in its announcements.
