Wu-Tang Clan is known for its heavily coded lyrical displays, along with production from RZA, that mirrored the sounds of films from the 1970s along with the bounce of breaks that were played in b-boy battles. The Wu’s ability to collaborate with one another showed on the rapping side, but RZA seemingly held down all the beats from the Wu’s group release, as well as solo albums from other members. Now, RZA has revealed why he handled a majority of the production.
While on Sirius XM for ‘HipHopNation,’ RZA said, “In the old days, I was very dominant. Like, it’s all my beats. And that’s because, in the old days, I didn’t feel that other producers were giving the Hip Hop type of beat that I thought was dope for Wu.”
The producer and composer noted his push to create all the music was to make fans want to listen as opposed to dancing first. Watch above.
