Boxer Jermell Charlo was arrested for misdemeanor assault on Saturday (December 16) in his home state of Texas.

It has been reported that the incident involved Charlo's girlfriend after audio surfaced of him bragging about hitting the woman. Charlo has reportedly been released following the incident.

The news comes after Jermell lost his fight by unanimous decision to undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in September. Alvarez knocked down Charlo in the seventh round and won by scores of 119-108, 118-109 and 118-109.

Charlo was stripped of his WBO junior middleweight title as soon as he entered the ring to face Alvarez. He has since given up his IBF junior middleweight title, but Charlo still owns the WBA and WBC 154-pound crowns.

More details to come.
