On Friday (December 29), ESPN's Ryan Clark sounded off on the treatment and evaluation of Russell Wilson, the Denver Broncos quarterback. This comes amid news that Wilson was benched on Wednesday in favor of backup Jarrett Stidham, who will start Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
While on "Get Up," Clark suggests that Wilson's performance was evaluated through a biased lens, which prevented him from receiving the recognition he deserved. Despite his outstanding career achievements, including winning the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award, Clark believes Wilson was constantly scrutinized and undermined by those who wanted to see him fail. He added that this biased lens prevented fair evaluations based on his on-field performance.
When it comes to head coach Sean Payton, Clark didn't hold back, stating, "Let’s be honest. Sean Payton has behaved as a thug since he became the coach of the Denver Broncos. Immediately when he gets in the building, he starts to undercut Russell Wilson personally and professionally from his first press conference on." You can hear more above.
