During an interview on VIP Saturdays on Shade 45, Benny the Butcher of Griselda opened up about the painful revelation of his ex-wife's infidelity while he was incarcerated.
Around the 21:50 mark of the interview, Benny was asked about the first time he experienced heartbreak or what might have contributed to his emotional detachment in matters of love. He responded, "I'm about to get real dark on y'all." Benny shared how his stints in and out of prison had strained his relationship with his ex-wife and mother of his child. While behind bars, he received letters from her that conveyed unsettling news. He perceived that she was struggling to convey the message that she was involved with someone else.
Describing the moment, Benny said, "It seemed like she didn't know how to tell me, like, you know, 'I'm seeing somebody else.' She was dragging it out." Eventually, she explicitly revealed her involvement with another man in one of the letters, catching Benny off guard. "This woman just starts telling me about the guy she was dealing with out of nowhere," he recounted. "I'm like, 'This woman thinks I'm her friend?' What the hell?"
He explained that he read the letter while serving as a tutor in prison, stepping aside to process the contents. The letter confirmed her relationship with someone else, leaving Benny deeply affected. "She's telling me about how this other guy is involved with her," he shared. "It was just a long letter asking me what should she do, like, ‘He got a wife. What should I do? I don’t know.’ I’m like, ‘This woman is crazy.’ So I put the letter down, and then this is how I knew I was messed up."
Benny sought the perspective of a friend, who noticed his distress. Reflecting on the situation, Benny admitted, "I realized—you know what I mean—I counted my losses with her. And it is what it is.” Despite his understandable upset, he acknowledged the challenges their relationship faced due to his incarceration. Benny expressed understanding, stating, "I never blamed her for it because I know I was in and out of prison, and a woman is only as strong as the bond she has with her man."
He further emphasized the importance of being present in a relationship, highlighting that a strong bond can withstand challenges. Benny shared that since then, he has found success, gotten married again, and moved on. He mentioned that his ex-wife attempted to reconcile multiple times, but he asserted, "that's the death penalty."
Earlier this year, Benny happily announced his marriage to his longtime girlfriend, India, sharing the joyous news on social media.
