Duane "Keefe D" Davis' bid for release from prison ahead of his trial is facing opposition from prosecutors who argue that he poses a significant danger.
Recently, Davis' legal team requested his release on his own recognizance before his June trial. If this request is not granted, they are advocating for bail to be set no higher than $100,000. However, court documents obtained by TMZ reveal prosecutors' objections to Davis' release, citing various reasons to keep him in custody until the trial.
Among the reasons presented by prosecutors are Davis' history as a former high-ranking member of the South Side Compton Crips, his numerous comments on the murder of 2Pac and his alleged involvement, as well as the reported threats he made to witnesses while in custody.
Prosecutors maintain that there is substantial evidence indicating Davis orchestrated the 1996 murder, and based on these factors, the state of Nevada is urging the court to deny Davis' request for release and keep him in prison until the trial begins.
In the preceding month, Davis pleaded not guilty to charges related to his alleged involvement in 2Pac's death. He has made two court appearances, with one instance involving his attorney failing to appear. Billy Garland, 2Pac's biological father, expressed his perspective on Davis in an interview with The Art of Dialogue earlier this month. According to Garland, Davis was exploited, stating, "He's always been a tool, and there's just time that they used him for what they wanted to use him." Garland suggested a larger conspiracy involving government entities and law enforcement against influential Black figures.
