Renowned boxing trainer Teddy Atlas recalls the arrival of a 12-year-old, muscle-packed Mike Tyson to the Catskill Boxing Club. Tyson, then a 190-pound juvie inmate, was brought to the gym by a prison guard, Bobby Stewart, who started teaching him the sport. Recognizing Tyson's raw power, quickness, and solid determination, Atlas knew he had to harness the boy's skill and spirit to turn him into a fighter. Despite the initial fear of Tyson's size and strength, Atlas understood there was more to the boxing prodigy than what meets the eye. He saw the potential and commitment in Tyson's fighting, his eagerness to fight beyond his comfort, and tirelessly showing up in the gym. Atlas recounts how he and mentor Cus D'Amato began Tyson's rigorous training, setting rules, breaking habits, and molding Tyson into the fighting machine which they later understood would become a heavyweight champion.
